With the world's eyes about to really focus on Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic Games, coupled with internal pressure to deal with the problems in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, the neighbourhood is sure to remain in the news. Much of the news focus will be on the Robert Pickton murder trial, and the push of real estate and property developers vs. community activists over social housing and upscale condos. The federal government of Canada is also threatening to pull funding for North America's first safe injection site - Insite.
